While other motor sports are dominated by technology, the spirit behind Superleague Formula is about feeling the pride and the passion… and getting closer to the action.

We believe that football and motor racing can combine to deliver something spectacular – an exciting contest with unforgettable moments to treasure.

A sport that brings passionate people together and which lives by its sharing, open philosophy: inclusive, involving and accessible.

We want to see a beautiful race. That’s why we’re doing this… What do you think?

  1. The A1GP concept was and still is a great idea. However, in its current guise it fails to deliver globally despite its international theme. Why? Firstly, the representing nations do not ensure the best national driver is in the car. Secondly, the drivers are swapped too much and therefore a non-motor sport individual has a hard time making sense of why whoever is in the car. It even looks like a pay-drive scenario where the national consortium is funded by the current driver. Thirdly, it really only appeals to an existing fan base. Going National/ Internatioanl is too generic for a niche like motor sport. However, Superleague Formula will work because of the enormous fan base, their massive passion, the competing clubs individual financial strength, their already media-savvy approach to sport and their connection to business. After all B-2-B is what make it all work.

  2. Sounds like a great idea!

What’s the chance of Spurs taking part?

  3. At first I thought this was a windup. The more I think about it the more the idea is a grower. How are the teams/clubs selected? Do they pay? (in which case it’s a game for the rich clubs) or am I likely to see Blackpool FC battling it out on the final lap at the Hungaroring with Ac Milan?

  4. As a PSV-fan and F1-fan I’m very excited about this news. Sounds like a great idea to me.

  5. A neat way of generating immediate passion, ownership and rivalry, as long as your club’s involved.

The football fans will want to be really clear on the financial investment/reward, but i can see it working.

  6. as a F1-fan i m a loser but this is a great idea

  7. I think it’s really a great idea.
So I’m really looking forward to 2008 when it all will begin.
I’m a real PSV-fan so that makes it all just more special that my club is allready involved. Haha by the way, tonight against Liverpool!;)
But I’ll say, organizers(?) of this great idea, keep on going like this and it will be even bigger than the formula 1 championship.

    GOOD WORK!

  8. I am sorry, I don’t like the idea. The budget will be spent and I hope it will not affect the transfer market

  9. So, now PSV is going to loose the Dutch Eredivisie-Championship, they’re going to look for something they can win instead? :p

Greetings from a Ajax-fan from Rotterdam

  10. Really great idea!!!! I’ve got two passions Formula 1 and football (PSV). Now it’s coming to gether. I wish everybody that’s invalted with this good luck.

Does it olso come on tv in the Netherlands and other country’s?

  11. A big surprise..this announcment!

But don’t forget the world of motorsport and the world of football are 2 different kind of worlds.
Another single-seater series… there are already so many series in the “Autosport” world.

Where you want to profile the Super League Formula?…. in the same category as GP2, WSR, Champcar, Indycar,…?
Why should a driver go to this series… as a step up to F1?
So many things… to think about: the environment issues for the future? Even F1 will have to “greener” by the year… don’t forget this part?
With such a powerfull engine/car and only 52 weekends in a year which circuits can you go to if it needs the same safety issues as F1!?

Sorry .. but only a very little part of want to see it happen.

  12. i think it sounds like a great idea. I love F1 and football, along with many other ‘sports’. Who knows, if it takes off maybe they can extend it to Ice Hockey, where we can see AC Milan taking on my favorite The Sharks!!! LOL

  13. Nice, one more price PSV can win. I love football and i love formula one. Great idea, cant wait to see it on television. perhaps we also have a good driver in our selection?

  14. Well, firstly, thanks to you all for taking the time to drop us a line! It’s great to hear that so many of you are up for it! Over the course of the next few weeks and months, we’ll be talking about all the things you have written about (and more, natch)…

However, most importantly, you all need to know that none of the football clubs will be spending any money to take part, so Rufus, Steve, Drivenal… rest assured! Your clubs will be giving your manager the money to spend on the football team, not on SF!!!

Last but not least, there’s much to be said and debated in response to Rusty Sausage and Jedi’s posts so pls keep checking back and join the debate!

  15. Why isn’t NAC Breda involved?

  16. They are using the old Formula Superfund chassis, still a fun idea though.

  17. Let me understand…

Will the only relation with the clubs be the colors of the cars?
I think it should have more… I don’t know, at least a team with the same nationality of the representing club.

It looks great, but it must be more structured. I’d like to see Flamengo in tracks, but I must feel the race team is really Flamengo’s team.

  18. GALATASARAY SK

  19. GREATTTTTT IDEAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    ABSOLUTLY AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a fan of olympiacos pireaus and i was excited when i heard that olympiacos will take part at this championship!
I think its a very big honour to race in a championship against clubs such as milan , porto , eidhoven etc. I also love f1 but its kind of boring because we dont have greek driver there or greek team so i will love “sf” because my team will participate. FINALY, and dont lough, i would surely watch “sf” because i will have a chance as olympiacos team to win milan or other major clubs! and i am sure that my team will not win uefa champions league in the next 20 years, so i hope that will win superleauge formula championship!

michael (SCHUMACHER)and mika (HAKKINEN) come to “sf” to see again a battle of you two, like the past at F1!!!!!

  20. A few questions:

    a) If the races are to take place at weekends, won’t the football fans all be watching football matches instead?

    b) If none of the clubs are spending money to take part, why aren’t more teams already signed up? And where is the money to compete coming from?

    c) This idea was well publicised in the guise of Premier 1 Grand Prix a few years ago, and failed to get off the ground. Why will Superleague Formula be different?

  21. Looks great… sort of but it sounds like another Premier 1 Grand Prix. I would hate to see this go to waste.

  22. I’m struggling to see how the concept will work. It sounds interesting, but the football fans I’ve spoken to can’t understand it. What’s the point? Where’s the funding coming from? Surely the football teams involved don’t need any further exposure, likewise with their sponsors.

  23. Great idea!!!
But is there a change that Ajax Amsterdam takes part on the tournament? for me as Ajax and F1 Fan would that be wonderfull!

  24. I’ve just posted a blog on the home page which hopefully answers a lot of your questions, but in response to Cosmo…

While the races will take place at weekends, SF won’t clash with any matches. If fans are with us, rather than at the matches themselves, then they’ll be able to see the games on screens at the circuit.

We have 18 letters of intent from clubs and we’re currently negotiating with 27 clubs overall. With only 20 places available on the grid, we want the best clubs from around the world to take part, so watch this space for more news as and when…

Overall, this is a long process to get right (and to get the right clubs). The previous iteration of this concept which you have alluded to didn’t come close to SF in terms of long-term organisation, and I’ll address this in more detail over the next week or two…

  25. Soccer has nothing to do with racing, this series sucks, we don´t need another series, specially if it has to with soccer.

  26. Hmmm where did I heard this before???

    http://web.archive.org/web/20031019132954/http://www.premier1grandprix.com/

    Good luck…
    A

  27. Hmmm, interesting, I have to admit as a motorsport fan I am a little concerned that the violet tendencies found in football fans could leave the terraces and make for the paddock instead, worrying. Motorsport was such a peaceful and good natured place until now.

Perhaps it might be more fun (and safer!)to invite F1 teams like Ferrari and Williams to form Football teams instead.

    I wish SF luck.

  28. The world of Motor racing needs an alternative to F1’s precession of manufactures, I hope this is the antidote to the boredom of F1 that many of us are looking for.
A world series aimed at the fans has to be the way forward, not a feeder series but a real alternative to F1

  29. Sounds good but maybe its better to get some small football clubs with it otherwise you will get that the rich get richer and the poor more poor

  30. What in the hell does football have to do with motorsport?

  31. I think it is a good idea let 2 sports come together and see
Lot of crashes i quess but he that’s what we like right?

good for investors and young drivers it’s a step up to F1 and a Soccer Taem so i looking forward to it

    Greets,
    from
    The Netherlands

  32. this is the dumbest idea i’ve ever seen

comparting soccer and motorsport is like comparing chalk and cheese. apples and oranges etc etc. havent you all got premierships to win?

leave motorsport to the professionals, not to you part time amatuers… stick to soccer!

  33. it’s a great idea!!!!

i wish panathinaikos takes part so that we can win him in this competition, too!!!

    a fan of olympiakos,
    nicname
    SOUSSI

  34. Although a new formula racing series is always nice, I’ll doubt it is a good idea to attract football hooligans to circuits. There’s so much violence around football matches nowadays, and virtually none with car races.

This could be the success factor in the long term. Possibly the initiators of Premier 1 Grand Prix thought the same way in 2003, and decided they didn’t want to take that risk.

I just hope we won’t see bunches of police unit and riots around the tracks in the future.

Like somebody else mentioned before: Good Luck!

  35. Sounds like a brilliant idea, we’ll have fans being beaten up and stabbed…inside a race circuit! Oh well done, this is in no way a commercial exercise entirely started with the aim of making money.

Why does football have to associated with everything? The idea of motorsport is that the cleverest car, with the best design and most efficient and reliable systems is controlled by a person with reaction times faster than a blink at suicidal speeds. The idea of football is that a load of blokes with less brain cells than ears kick a ball round a park for 90 long dull minutes. Unless your watching Gretna. The 2 aren’t compatable.

Besides its already been done, the Lister Storm GTL ran in Le Mans backed by Newcastle United a few years back http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/1997/Donington-1997-06-01-001.jpg

  36. I think it is another way to bring two different sports together, some fans, like myself, might actually support and follow the two sports teams. After all, the cars are carrying my team’s colours..Forza Milan

  37. I like the idea of a racing competition between the best clubs in the world. Like the prospect says: it brings together the two most popular sports in the world.
And best of all: it doesn’t cost any money for the clubs involved, they simply lend their name to a team.
What I like also is the fact that PSV Eindhoven is the only Dutch team participating, hehe. Of course there will be more clubs added to the list, and I hope Celtic (my other favorite football club) will be amongst them.

  38. Can’t agree with RalphoZ and Tomos, who seem to equate all football fans with hooligans. This isn’t the first time that a tiny minority of idiots (this time at matches in Seville and Rome) make people think that we’re ‘all as bad as each other’. It’s not right and certainly not fair to tar us all with the same brush.

  39. Not a bad idea at all. Just make sure that all the soccer players will be safe =) After all, I don’t want to see those players that I love get hurt…

  40. i think first of all we will just have to wait and see if this competition will realy be as great as everyone thinks. I remember other plans for a racing comp. that was called premier 1 grand prix in wich my favourite team Feyenoord also would compete. never heard anything of it since, and now this competition the superleague formula is here. I really dont know what to think of it, if all of the cars would haver the same engine power(like the a1gp) then it could be interesting. it really only is too bad that one of the biggest clubs(still)in the netherlands FEYENOORD doesnt compete in this series

  41. @Superleagueformula

You might not agree with my statement, because you falsely assume I think all football fans are hooligans, which I definitely don’t!

I know it’s just a few rotten apples that screw it up for the rest, and that is exactly my point. It takes just a few hooligans to spoil the atmosphere around a racetrack, just like they do in and around football stadiums.

Imagine the car of a certain team crashes out a car of another team, for diehard fans it will feel as if their footballclub has been taken out. On racetracks the safety precautions are aimed at track action vs the crowd, often not the crowd against it self with specific areas for only fans of team A like seen in stadiums.

Nowadays racingfans peacefully mix amongst each other, even if their team fails to win or crashes. It would we be nice to see that in the Superformula League as well, but it would be a shame if it wouldn’t.

  42. Nice i like, i am a biiiig fan

  43. It’s a great idea.

I wish other teams from greece take parts in the competition

  44. Hey RalphoZ.

I take your point, I really do (and apologies for getting the wrong end of the stick).

I mentioned your thoughts to Alex and Anella at SF yesterday to which they replied, “Mmmmm okay, a tricky one…”

One thing they think we need to point out is that our ‘target’ for Superleague Formula is not the fanatic football supporter but fans who embrace sport in general and, in particular, a new arm of their club which they can follow / support.

We will also be devising a ‘weekend of entertainment’ so that we can attract young families, women, and young people.

As an overall policy, we will have a firm ‘zero tolerance’ attitude to any troublemakers and – given the awareness of potential problems – we will be paying extra attention to this.

And as for one car being wiped out by the other, well, that’s what sport is all about!! You win some, you lose some…

We want Superleague Formula to be a championship that belongs to the fans and this is the message that we want to give out and, hopefully, our philosophy will be transmitted loud and clear to the public.

PS. Viz your thoughts about Premier 1, just wanted to say that I’ll explain a bit more about what happened there in the main post over the next few days.

  45. Great idea… Two greatest sports in the world combined. All same cars. A1GP proved it is a great concept. I don’t care its about soccer teams. It’s another great new racing league and thats what im interested in. And lets hope some new Dutch racing talent will stand up ;))

I must admit that I really like the concept of this idea. There is no sport more popular than football, at least in Europe. And Formula 1 is certainly highly entertaining for many people, including me. Imagine of going to see a Grand Prix while at the same time chanting your teams songs? I think it will pay out in the end.

As a suppoter of Olympiacos, I may have known about this all concept for many weeks now, but I never knew that Olympiacos would participate in such a big challenge. You can’t imagine how happy I felt seeing on the website of Olympiacos the logos of our team on a Formula-quality car. Nonetheless, I wish that more teams would take part from Greece, like AEK and Panathinaikos, although I fear that the violence we see these days in the stadiums would be spread out even in the Superleague Formula.

Hope we will find some good drivers for our team. Too bad we cannot ask F1-drivers to compete for us.

  46. i think its a great idea.
good luck to this concept and of course good luck to my team olympiacos.

  47. This is amazing! F1 with Olympiakos! i cant believe it… this will be a massive success as we will see a new era of motorsport! Something new is always successful if its thought of well. Good luck to my beloved team OLYMPIACOS!! and i hope the driver is Greek… cant wait for the opening.

  48. Why do you stop visit Asia?
We have some Superleague Formula’s fan.
    We have TOYOTA,HONDA,MITSUBISHI,MAZDA,some J-league clubs,and Suzuka Circuit,Twin-rink Motegi,Fuji speedway.

  49. I think it’s a great idea to see the best clubs in Europe and probably in the world to compete in something that we all love, speed!!
Although it will be difficult and probably expensive to visit one of the countries where the races will take place I am looking forward to see OLYMPIAKOS to compete.
    Go Thrylos go!!!!

  50. theres really no point in leaving a comment here, cos itll probably be removed quite fast, but ill do it anyway.
Im just another fan of football as the lot of you, and if theres one thing that gets me more and more depressed each season is that the term “cash is king” is applied more and more each year. Its all about money these days, nothing about heart. That is, with one exception. The cow (us, the fans) has the heart. And if you milk a cow too much, it’ll die and the heart with it.

I guess most of you see where im going with this. This is just another way to milk the supporters. I miss the days when Fowler pulled up his shirt and showed us a tee supporting the dockers in Liverpool. “I miss the days”…and im just 24.

Theres more passion, more football going on, more heart in…lets say…norwegian 7.division than it is is PRL,ED and so on.

But that doesnt mean I’ll leave my Liverpool. I’ll be with them with heart and soul as I have been for the last…19 years. But you lads just be aware what this is.

    Reply to Dave:
I do not quite understand where you want to conclude with your reply. I think that nobody doubts the passion football has. And we fans certainly don’t feel “drained” in any way, as you can notice on the replies above. I do not see any reason why this concept should ruin the quality and the beauty of football, by the time both sports are probably the most popular ones worldwide. Like this site says: “While other motor sports are dominated by technology, the spirit behind Superleague Formula is about feeling the pride and the passion… and getting closer to the action.” I do not see anything wrong with going to the track and chanting my favorite team’s songs, the ones I hear every weekend in the stadium. If Liverpool had their own SF-car and would take place in such a competition, wouldn’t you like it hearing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and supporting your team’s driver?
I won’t say that I am completely convinced about the immediate success or impact of this concept, but I do think that it will pay out in time. What do you think?

  51. GALATASARAY SK is the best

  52. fc bruges!!!!

  53. I don’t know what I have to think about this. From August till November we can see Formula One. So I don’t think we’ll see much SL Formula on TV. I’m wondering why you’re doing this, there are so many classes already. Like GP2, WTCC, DTM, IRL, ChampCar, Nascar.

Of course it’s special that my team is taking part in this but who will race it? I don’t think Jos Verstappen is getting in the PSV car.

  54. Olympiacos… we will show you that we are one of the greatest worldwide clubs…

We can not compare this prject with any other in the world neither history. The main problem I see is: how much money are football teams disposed to invest in motorsports if their priority is to use that money to win the champions league and buy cristiano ronaldo or any other expensive player?

The reality is that motorsports & football are both very popular sports and if this Championsip achieves to create an impact with football fans &amp real motorsport fans, this serial could really suceed after the first season.

The main point is to have young and first class drivers, to have credibility for motorsports fans, get not mainly the richest clubs but the most popular ones and no matter if they sell or gift the tickets, they must have the tracks full of fans, with lots of football & racing stars during the first season. We all know that mexico & USA have great drivers, great fans, rich team owners and popular teams in whole latin america… so maybe it´s a good option to open a team on this side of the world?

  55. what other clubs will get involved it wont only be 5 we do have less than a year. any british clubs linked, they should visit Donington, Brands nd Silverstone

  56. Borussia Dortmund play Handball, Table-Tennis and of course, Football 😀

I am a big BVB-Fan and like F1, so i think it is a fantastic idea!! Good Luck!!

See you 2008 ;D Than the first Superleague Formula Winner iiiiiiiiiiiiiiisss Borussia Dortmund 😀

    ok see you

  57. Honestly, I don’t worry about any riots between football hooligans at race weekends, simply because SF does not aim at this specific “consumer group”. If hooligans are interested in any kind of sport at all, ist just football. But most of the times, for individuals that regularily take part in viloent confrontations, the sport comes second, while organized riots, that often take place in remote locations far away from the general public, come first.
Obviously, SF appeals mostly to people who are fans of football AND motorsports, to harmless racing afficionados, and to the regular, peaceful, good-show-loving allround sports fan.

  58. A very good idea,
    the cars looking great.
    keep up the good work.

  59. Really funny to see a sportcar with red-black colours, really.

    But, …

But motorsport is a hard world, nothing like football.
ACM played a bad season but made it come good with the CL-final.

An F1-crew that begins a season on the bad side can’t pretend to be champion at the end of the season.

    Anyway, really funny …

  60. I would love to see Galatasaray in this wonderful competition

  61. Forever GALATASARAY

  62. Galatasaray??? hehe in fact they have not got the oil for their cars, so how can they can get this?? only FENERBAHÇE can make it!!!

  63. mono olympiakos… the red legend only

  64. I always welcome new motor racing series,i think that this is a really good idea as it may attract a wider audience to start taking intrest in motor sports.Open up new horizons

  65. Dá-le….

Here in Brazil everybody is talking about Flamengo…

We want to see Grêmio in the SF. I bet Ronaldinho would be happy to, since he gorwn up playing for Grêmio.

    Dá-le Immortal
    Dá-le oooooooo

And what about the other south americans clubs??
And a rece in south america??

  66. In Le Mans we are very interested by this project.
It will be wondefull to have a car with the “Le Mans UC” (ligua one in France)
I’m sur we can make a wonderful deal.
How can we build something ?

Contact me please. I’have big friends very enthousiastic to have a car.
    JML

  67. Hi,
I can’t find any details of your organisation on your website. Who are the people behind this project? What is their background?

  68. Hi Dirk,
We will be updating the website very soon, with much more information (as you have requested), as well as more chances to interact and get involved… so keep checking in and thanks for your interest!

  69. Sweet idea! I really hope that this league go on and on, expecting Flamengo winning a championship and a future race in Brazil!

  70. That’s a realy good idea.
Why do not Real Madrid in?

But, knowing Flamengo is in makes me very happy. We hope sucess to the league, and as Hugo said, it comes to Brazil and specially to Rio de Janeiro, where motorsports have lots of fun and lost all the great events it used to have in the last few years (MotoGP, F1 and Indy Race).

  71. the best part is the clubs don’t pay a cent!!!!!!!

  72. Hey, nice idea, but as a Sao Paulo supporter I would like to see Sao Paulo in this championship and a race in Brazil.

  73. Fantastic idea…

Today the Brazilian web sites gave great emphasis to the fact of Flamengo to have gotten right with you. I hope that does with that my team, São Paulo, also enter in the races.

I only hope also, you continue without collecting the cars and the teams, because that would put an end to the business.

I don’t need nor to say that you would have very more success in my country if you did a race here. It is worth to remind that the Brazilian people is one of the most fanatic people for football that exists, if not the most… also we had great drivers in car race´s history…

I hope no Argentinean team enters in the competition… Besides leaving the races easiest, that will contribute with the bad character inside of the tracks…

Good Luck…. And please try to chat with someone inside São Paulo F.C.

Greetings from the 3 times football world champion,

SÃO PAULO FUTEBOL CLUBE – SP/BRASIL
The best football team in Brazil

  74. Great ideia, but I’m gonna allow myself to leave a sugestion: consider a race in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the second season. It will be the biggest display of the popularity this new formula can get (provide we can upgrade our racetrack by then…).

  75. it’s an interesting idea, hopefully it will work, it could bring more fans to the motorsports world, and create a rivalry with the F1 cars, even though they will still be faster and more popular..

  76. Great Idea! Big Flamengo & Ayrton Senna fan here! Wish I could see him driving the Flamengo car 🙂

  77. This is ridiculous! soccer sucks ass, racing rules. don’t combine it, it won’t help soccer, it’s just gonna embarrass the racing world.

  78. You are not gonna regret by chosing Flamengo as the only to represent brazilian teams in this championship. Our supporters will show that we have not only the larger number of fans, but also that we can provide great monetary benefits. We are going to show to those ones (usally people based in São Paulo state) who insist to say that their teams should be called to join the tournment instead of Flamengo. Depending on me, I’ll buy either the most expensive souvenirs or the most simple ones.

    Sorry for the poor english.

CLUBE DE REGATAS DO FLAMENGO – THE BIGGEST OS THE WORLD

  79. I love racing and I love football. I love pizza and I like ice cream. In both cases, it gets ugly and distasteful when combined. Given the choice between a European football match and a Superleague race, the football fan will never choose in favour of the race. They don’t have the budget to do both. Race fans know there’s better racing around than this and wouldn’t want to mingle between football fans anyway. Furthermore, I expect them to have a difficult time getting it televised on an open net. Whatever you may think of A1GP, the potential of a national team exceeds a regional one. Or do you expect an Ajax fan to cheer for a PSV car? Not very likely, is it? Rubbish, that’s what it is. I like the car though. 😉

  80. PSV is obviously gonna own this….

    BOERUHH!!

  81. First of all i would just like to congratulate the SL team on this fantastic project and I love the fact that already you are building a fan base through this great website by allowing fans to leave there thoughts at any time, brilliant.

Now that i have grasped the concept could you guys possibly give us some information on where we can watch it on TV, sponsorship opportunities, various hospitality at the circuits etc etc

    Good Luck………..

  82. Great idea! I love motor sport, nice cars and challenges. Superleague Formula will bring a lot of new fans to motor sport and they will love it… for sure.
Supporters will be together as one to support their team, no other sport cars competition will bring that spirit to circuits.
SPA Francorchamps is waiting for your show… me too. GOOD LUCK! Alain

  83. Interesting, i hope it will be good racing series, not just a idea. Why don’t you tell us more informations ? What tracks do you have on mind(imola, monza, city races)? Would you combine young drivers with drivers who have a lot of experience in racing ? Wish you luck, FERRARI fan.

    A brand extension failure?

Sincerely, it doesn’t seem like a good idea. If at least cars were driven by professional football player… Why should I waste my time watching races of cars driven by people I’ve never heard about, when I have Formula 1? Unless you convince Fernando Alonso to drive FC Barcelona’s car and Louis Hamilton to drive Manchester United’s car, I just do not see this!

  84. we are expecting the olympiacos f1 car here in piraeus…

  85. Great concept..
A fan of both sports and will be interesting to see them combined..
    A fan of Olympiakos
    Also follow AC Milan
    Go the Greeks………………

    Go the Greeks..

  87. That’s the most stupid idea’I’ve ever heard of!
2 Things you CAN’T combine are football and motorsports.
It will probably (and hopefully) fail in the greatest way possible.

  88. Awesome Idea! After following European football for many years as well as F1, i think this is an excellent sport with a “fresh” concept. This is also something where I can see my favorite European Club (OLYMPIAKOS) compete against other top flight clubs and who knows, maybe even a race day here in the USA. GO OLYMPIAKOS!!!

  89. I am a fan of Olympiacos and i think it will be a success because of 3 reasons: 1st football clubs have a big fan support, 2nd cars will have THE SAME big powerfull engine, 3rd this will be a driver’s competition (best driver wins, no tricks no diferrent engines). I like F1 but after all this cheating, secret stealing and spying i really don’t fancy F1 anymore. I like the idea of a driver centric racing rather than a specific team development type of racing. in F1 the team that spends more money on engine development usually wins, what are the odds of smaller teams to compete and win? Usually none but here the teams will have same cars so the most skillful driver will win. Great idea.

  90. scusate se scrivo in italiano
volevo sapere che saranno i team management in pista
    le gare dove si svolgeranno
ci sono piloti e chi sono
il pilota sara pante o ingaggio club calcio
    grazie

  91. Hmm, it all sounds a bit kooky to me. Why are football teams wasting their money on motor racing? Why would football fans want to watch racing cars? Motor racing fans will support any new and exciting format, but why bother with Football colours? Why not try to entice McLaren, Red Bull, Peugeot, Chevrolet, BMW, Suzuki, MG etc away from their current series and try something different?
It will be interesting to see how it develops next year. What TV coverage will there be? How are you going to interest both the football and the motor racing fans?

  92. Hi Dg… You raise some interesting points. The main thing I would say in response is that, regarding funding, the participating football clubs will pay *nothing* to be a part of Superleague Formula.

In actual fact, clubs will actually receive a share of total revenues (plus approximately half of the car sponsorship), creating several millions of dollars every year in extra revenue.

TV coverage is in negotiation… and as for why football fans would watch, I would say ‘why not?’. As witnessed by the many fans from different clubs who have left and expressed messages of support, there seem to be plenty of appetite for SF… It’s an exciting proposition to see your club participate in a new championship – something which is not alien to the clubs already signed up, who take part in basketball, swimming, etc. etc.

And instead of enticing the McLarens of this world to SF, we believe that we should try something different that echoes the success (and execution) of Nascar’s relationship with the fans.

    What do you think?

  93. So who is paying for and running the cars? Are you doing like A1GP and having each pair of cars run by experienced motor racing teams like WSR?

If the Football teams aren’t contributing why are they getting their names on the series and the revenue?

I also think that if the Football teams really wanted to support motor racing they would be sponsoring teams in F1, GP2, DTM, INDY, WTCC and NASCAR already, or funding new drivers from their respective cities/countries, which is what we really need in motor racing to ‘try something different’.

  94. First of all, no, it’s not like A1. Theirs is more like a franchise approach (wherein they sell the, for example, Swedish franchise to a paying individual who then runs that country’s entry).

Superleague Formula is now in the final process of selecting the best race teams in Europe who are willing to participate in this new sport and who see the commercial benefits in taking part.

The value for football clubs comes down to being able to compete in a new sport, and experience a new way for them to grow their support (and, yes, their ‘brand’) across the world by reaching out to new fans.

A football club’s participation means that they are given the opportunity to diversify and add value to their business. If, say, PSV win the first season they are likely to gain more fans and more money which will enable them to buy more players.

Sponsoring an existing team in, say, F1 is only likely to raise awareness of a club’s very existence. Taking part in SF means they can be directly involved in a sport that combines the passion of football with the excitement of motor racing.

Not everyone agrees with this assessment but, as we’ve already found to our delight, there are thousands of fans who are really behind us succeeding. So are you in?!

  95. So, in effect you are saying that either the fans or your selected racing teams will be funding the growth of the football clubs?

Since you have already ruled out the racing teams that I as a racing fan know to be the best in the world, how are you able to qualify your statements about getting the best drivers in the world? They don’t come cheap and they will already be committed to 2008 series (and 2009 come to that!)

I would like to see a new motor sport emerge to challenge the preconceptions set by the existing series, but you are under the authority of the FIA, and seeing how they have treated F1, GT Racing and WRC in the past, I think you would be better to start again under an American or Asian authority.

  96. Thanks for your interest, Dg. We’re not saying that the racing teams or fans will fund the growth… We’re saying if everything is a success, then TV, sponsors, etc etc will want to get involved. At the moment, we are starting small with the intention to grow, with the fans’ support.

We haven’t announced the racing teams taking part, so keep checking in to see whether you’re right… but you’re right, older, more established drivers don’t come cheap which is why, as we’ve explained elsewhere, our ambition is to attract the best *young* driving talent.

Thanks again for your interest… and please keep checking back to see how we’re progressing! All the best.

  97. I think Dg needs to do his research first before asking silly questions! Everything you have asked is explained on the website.

Anyway great progress SL, you guys are doing an awsome job.

Just one question, whats the news on an English football joining the beautiful race? Cant believe Man Utd have not snapped up the opportunity; or have they?! Man Utd and AC Milan on the front row of the grid, ooh i can see it now… (yeah the football fans will hate that Dg, think about it!)

  98. Letsgoracing: Yeah right! SL will be competing for new drivers with F1, GP2 and other series next year. Its the drivers that are going to do the racing, not anyone from the football clubs (as explained on this site). The site does not say which racing teams are going to be competing (and if you dont get good enough teams no drivers will want to race). The site doesn’t say who is paying for the cars, or the drivers (its explained that it will all come from Sponsors, so will there be racing if there are no Sponsors?)Perhaps SL is expecting drivers to pay their way (and see all their cash go to the football teams?)

  99. Dg: are you mad?!

Do you think that there is only a handfull of racing drivers out there? There is so so many drivers looking for drives in all series, too many to go round in fact. So what SL is doing is providing a greater opportunity for those drivers. Also what you must remember is that there is only a few F1 drivers that actually get paid, the rest bring there own money and sponsors. SL has said and quote “an exclusive crop of new, up-and-coming future stars – all of whom are set to gain considerable experience in a very competitive championship”, if these drivers dont make it to F1 or GP2 why would they not be interested in SL, 4 litre V12 engines with no driver aids and a chance to prove themselves for the future??!!

The race teams have not yet been announced hence why it does not mention them yet, im told by a very reliable source that the teams will be well known and established so no worries there.

Im sure that SL will not have gone so far if they are yet to get any sponsors, after all this is a marketeers dream, just think of the merchandising opportunities alone! There will also be money coming in from TV companies from around the world, the commercial value of such a championship you just cant put a value on.

    Any more Questions Dg??

  100. i’t a great idea. I think this race need large tv coverage to introduce this race. I think it be better than a1 gp.

  101. Fantastic idea!
I’m very proud that Flamengo was the first brazilian team that joined the league!
No Doubt we’re gonna do very well the first year!
    []’s

  102. This league is great opportunity to just rise compation between selected teams and their opponents. I guess, fans of selected ” Worlds 21 greatest team” teams are enjoying to see others jealouse faces. 🙂 As an example, fener bahce sk. I like to see them as they get so jealous of Galatasaray SK. 🙂

  103. Seems to me it´s very close to Premier 1 which didn’t run al all. More of the same persons from Premier 1, is to find in SF. I’m lookin’ forward to august 2008 to see it run. Until then, i don’t believe in SF. Sorry guys.

  104. Is Juventus going to have a team as too?

  105. Is SF coming to Canada?

  106. good idea even though i’m not a fan of football i’ll enjoy watching this form of motorsport as i’m sure it will be very exciting

  107. I´m a Flamengo fan here in Rio de Janeiro and I´m very proud to see “THE FLAMENGO NATION” taking part on that great idea. SF MUST have a race here in Rio. Would be the biggest attendence of a race in Brazil. Good luck to all the others clubs and cars… You will need it! LOL… and Congratulations!

  108. I´m a FC Zürich FAN here in Zürich and I`d be very happy to see “THE ZÜRICH NATION” taking part on that great idea. SF must have Zürich car!!! PLEASE!!!!!! Good luck to all the others clubs and cars… You will need it! LOL… and Congratulations!

  109. We’d like to see Sporto Club CORINTHIANS Paulista on it! We are the bigger and de best suporters in Brazil. Please include us on Superleague Formula. Representing Corinthians suporters we had Ayrton Senna and now Barichello like a concection between footbal and car race.

  110. Please let the Italian race be in Vallelunga!!
That’s the place to be in Italy, and I think the perfect place for SF.

  111. Please let the Italian race be in Valleluga!!
That’s the perfect place for SF.
I like the concept of A1-GP and this is like that…. It’s just PERFECT.

    P.S: I’m also a motorsportsfan

  112. Meow Meow

  113. GALATASARAY and the fans are excitedly waiting!

    Good Luck to everyone…

As a sports club hope we will be the fastest 🙂

  114. A maior rivalidade do Brasil é a do VASCO DA GAMA e do FLAMENGO, comercialmente, no Brasil, seria muito bom para a Liga de vcs se o vasco também estivesse nesse campeonato!!!!

  115. I think it isn’t the greatest idea, whatever Formula 1 alternatives are on the market e.g. A1GP, Champ Car, the pinnacle of motor racing remains Formula 1. What do football clubs know about motor sport? It won’t be about reducing lap times and who will they put into the car? I really doubt this will work… I think this will be expensive entertainment for the clubs, hopefully they’ll still deliver results on the pitch! I don’t fancy this. I wonder what Bernie thinks about this plan?

  116. Motorsport isn’t soccer! Stay in sandbox!

  117. Sehr geehrte Damen unf Herren

    Rolf Mauti

  118. This is an interesting idea, and so far I love the liveries that have been shown for the clubs.

If done right, I think this has a great chance of success. The idea of making this race series similar to the NASCAR series in the US is a good one as it will get everyone involved.

What I would love to see to secure the idea would be to have team members present in the paddock during races so that the fans have a visual representation of the team, and players they love right there on the track. Perhaps get some of them involved in the pit crew?

I also think that the car and team should make appearances at every soccer game that the car represents. In this way the 2 sports can further enhance each other. Precautions should be taken though to ensure that the over enthusiastic fans can’t do any harm to the race team or the car, 🙂

All in all I can see how this could be very big. For those in the US, imagine if your favorite NFL team had a car in this series. Imagine if they had their own SL series to race in. hehe. The Raider Nation would go nuts over an idea like that.

In the end though, I would like to see that this idea stays true to the concept of being more for the fun rather than being seriously tied to commercialism. Let some of the sponsors get their names on the cars along with the soccer teams and I am sure you will see further support for both. Put the racing teams names on the jerseys of the soccer players to further tie to the two together. Maybe even have someone paint an image of the Car on the home stadium?

  119. I´m interested in knowing where the financing for this project is coming from. Being such an expensive sport, teams in other competitions have a number of sponsers for their 2 cars.

Since the football teams won´t contribute financially, who is? Are there other sponsers invloved? Is there private investmnet?

And secondly, who is behind the organization?

    Thank you.

  120. Hello all

So if clubs won’t have to pay to run, they don’t have any members on the teams, will they at least pick the driver ?

It seams to me this is just another way to put 20 ad spaces racing around a track.

I also don’t like the idea of identical cars, this leaves less room for competition, i think a better way to level the teams is to have a maximum budget.

    Bu

  121. i think this is a great idea. what car company is going to be making the engines? and where can we fin figures for the cars, such as top speed and 0-60mph?

  122. I’m really not getting the idea of this. If- for example- someone like Arsenal get a space on the grid, but no other english clubs get a space, every English fan will start supporting Arsenal? If you look at the posts above a lot of the more enthusiastic ones are coming from people whos clubs are already in the competition!

Also, are many people going to come and pay to see the races? In the uk, we already have f1, A1GP, RWS, WTCC and DTM visiting each year, along with the BTCC and F3/GT series many times. Are people going to pay to see another event on top?

  123. just to add: I’m a tottenham fan, so unless a tottenham car apears I don’t think i’ll be supporting other clubs instead!

  124. What a brilliant idea combining motor sport with football. The name too has such a ring to it, whoever thought of it must be truly talented. Would it be possible to become a ‘silent investor’ as I am absolutely certain that I would get an incredible return for my money. Also, how do I go about buying ‘top draw’ tickets for the w/e 20/21 Sept 2008 at the Nurburg ring in Germany.
    bye DB.

  125. I agree. I like the idea of diferent different approaches to the same problems from different makers. A budget is the best way to go.

There are already too many series that use the one chasis/one engine maker idea, and those just aren’t as interesting to me.

  126. Really great idea!!!
maybe FC Arsenal could join..But it’s a fantastic idea!!!

  127. Search the news of the Corinthians? Please link our community on Orkut!

    http://www.orkut.com/Community.aspx?cmm=45604414

  128. S.C. Internacional must be in this competion !!!

Because is the best from Brazil !!!

  129. My opinion is: BRILIANT, GREAT !!

Despite any concerning about commercial intention, the ideia is simply GREAT… Join football and speed is just marvelous…

Anyway I wish you a very longlife to Superleague Formula…

Go CORINTHIANS !!! Back to the lead !!

  130. I think that must be posible see online the races, well in some TV of every country or in a channel of youtube for example.

Too think must have more sections and some games, for example same that my game F1REM in http://www.f1portal.net , a f1 manager game where can run with your f1 car livery of your favourite club.

    My club is RCD Espanyol

  131. I hope this works. And I will be there at Donnington if it pans out.

My team HULL are running a stolen Ford Escort. lol!

  132. Meennnngooo !!!!

  133. It’s a cynical marketing exercise – nothing to do with sport.

A few already rich people are quickly going to get even richer before the whole thing folds and is forgotten.

    Don’t get sucked in.

  134. gilgamesh, you sound like a sad old man, wake up its 2008 my friend, the motorsport world needs this, F1 is full of internal politics and not enough wheel to wheel racing. Whos agrees with me?

  135. And in Formula 1, A1GP, IRL, Champcar etc, we don’t see any rich people, do we? If these people can make a succesfull racing league, what the hell, of course they take their own part. Doesn’t everyone? Why blattering so much on all these things that’s the same in all the other leagues? Same were people talking when A1GP was starting up… Why not wait and see, and judge afterwards, instead of trying to shoot at every idea immediatly…

Good luck, all of you working on SuperleagueFormula!

  136. i think that you won’t get much football fans at the race track…
i know a lot of football fans and when i tell them about racing they don’t wanna listen…because it has nothing to do with football…
most of the race fans i know are only racefans and no football fans…
    i’m dutch…and i like racing…but i like to go as a dutchman…so i go orange…
i don’t support soccer club PSV Eindhoven…but they are the only dutch team in the Superleague Formula but i can’t go in orange…because they are red white…

    HELP…

i really like the idea…and i go to the tracksite if i can…but i think they don’t get the fans they would like to reach…

  137. Please help the Corinthians fans…. They can’t speak english.

  138. I think that CORINTHIANS is the best and the great !!!

  139. I am favorite GALATASARAY SK

  140. I have been following and visiting this website since SF launch. First up, congratulations for bringing out a terrific looking car!! While you guys have been playing it down saying SF should fit in somewhere between F1 and GP2, I know that you secretly you guys designed this car to lap at the pace and compete with F1 cars!! I have a bunch of questions and points to make.

First up, I am not a football fan at all. My knowledge of the sport is as minimal as it can get. I would like to see equal emphasis on drivers, teams and technical aspects of racing as much as the focus on the football clubs competing against each other.

Question one. Wont having race cars in a clubs colors discourage corporate sponsors? We are already seeing it in A1GP. Most corporate sponsors would like to see cars adorn their corporate colors (eg: redbull). Would you allow such corporate branding colors on cars, when a sponsor comes knocking? (unless you are banking on sponsors of the football clubs to also sponsor the cars)

Question two. Is there a television deal in place for USA? I live in USA. I know its a tough market to crack since football means entirely different thing in this nation and getting TV slots in a reasonably big network (Top 50) is very very tough. If you don’t get a TV deal in place, do you plan to stream live races freely, taking an excellent example from A1GP for markets without TV coverage? I follow A1GP series through live streaming as there is no deal in place for live races in USA.

    Thanks.

  141. This has no chance of succeeding.

  142. It’s been tried before, and it doesn’t work. I cannot even begin to comprehend how much I hate this idea. Would you attempt to combine Cricket and American Football? Because that pretty much equates to whats being attempted here.

This isn’t going to bring racing and football fans together. Football fans are exactly that, football fans. Just because you bring out a new racing series with their teams colours, won’t make them any more interested in watching the damn thing. They’re still two very different sports.

I’m a diehard racing fan (i.e. I pretty much watch anything with wheels and an engine), and trust me, I will not be watching this. I put up with football dominating all other sports as it is, I don’t need to see it have any involvement in motor racing, thankyou!

The only plus point I can see in this whole thing is the cars, very impressive machines. Hopefully when the series goes bankrupt (which I don’t think will be far off), a proper racing series will buy them out.

Sorry for the rant, but I just don’t like this whole thing.

  143. GALATASARAY

  144. Great car!! But I do not think this series will be succesfull in getting an audience. I don’t like soccer, so I don’t care and I’ll just watch the races cause I love racing. But, if I am an Ajax fan (which most of the dutch soccer fans are) I will not be interested in PSV scoring some points in a race class. You will only atract the fans of the respective clubs. Even then you will only get those who are a bit interested in racing.

Good luck however and if you need another testdriver let me know 😉

  145. Thrile thee mou OLYMPIAKE mou !!!!! The legent of olympiakos is alive in formula too…!!!!!

  146. Rangers fan, F1 Fan and the best football club in Scotland being mixed with motor sport is amazing. Rangers winning the first SF season and the Scottish domestic Treble and UEFA Cup can’t be beaten.

  147. Rangers FC……….more trophies….thank you David Murray

    Worlds No.1 Club

108 trophies and counting 4 more in the next few weeks then SF Title…cant be bad!!!

  148. Super League Formula is a brilliant idea! I hope it makes motor sport more accessible to more people. The current F1 race tickets cost us a fortune. This should be as exciting! Can’t wait to see it all grow.
Footie fans turning into petrolheads – good combo.

It’s great that RANGERS FC have got there first in the UK!

  149. this site is so poorly put together that i thought the whole thing was a skam, i had to further reasearch to establish if it was genuine.

I would think that to sell this properly you need to get the site sorted. as a Celtic Fan i would love to see a chalenge of the old Firm but i can’t imagine it would excite me as much as next saturday will.

I don’t think that this will be successful.

I can’t think of a better way to debase motor-racing, it truly beggars belief. I dislike football primarily for the unsportsman like conduct and antics of many players on the pitch and linking football to a sport that encourages open and fair competition is frankly an insult to race-car drivers. I won’t watch it and I hope it fails. An other beauty of a car from Panoz, shame it will be wasted on this.

  150. Why, whats the point?

  151. I would like to say that with regards to David and his comments on the 24/3 I too was looking forward to the weekend footie fixture and was pleased with the result and still we are hopeful that all good things come to those who wait so we are looking forwards to Manchester in May and of course the domestic treble oh I almost forgot formula superleague
and in the immortal words of our greatest manager Bill Struth “Let others come we enjoy the race” bring it on and if there is enough in the biscuit tin after Strachan gets his compen for incompetence we might just see that “Old Firm” race next season
    Tom

  152. doomed to fail.

A1gp has a niche and big sponsorship backing now, it not about the drivers its about nation v nation.

most footbal fans hate motor racing.

scrap the idea before you lose everyones money

    IT WILL NOT WORK.

  153. O corinthians vai acelerar fundo e mostrar para todo o mundo que nós brasileiros somos apaixonados não só pôr futebol mas tambem por velocidade! Vai corinthians!!!

  154. The prospect of having football crowds at motor race meetings is intriguing. Yet, I somehow cannot help but feel that rolls of toilet paper and empty beer bottles will not look very good littering the grounds at Donington FC, Nurburgring FC and so on. And then there are the competitors…a bunch of over-paid, spoilt brats, arguing about transfer fees and not wishing to be spoken to by either spectators or media, unless they are vetted appropriately first. The idea of bringing a sport of the people together with a sport for the ultra-wealthy is surely fraught with major issues? While motorsport has managed its affairs behind closed doors moderately well (Max Mosley’s little peccadillos and shenanigans notwithstanding), in fact, it cares little for the spectators and has even courted the potential of racing without paying punters in attendance. How anybody in their right mind can suggest or propose that these two vehemently opposing sporting endeavours might be able to create a correlation is outstanding and almost unbelievable. Perhaps football clubs bringing down their high admission fees to provide better value to the footballing fraternity, might be a better way to squander resources. The fact that man-versus-machine will be tossed out of the way in favour of a questionable stock car formula, when we already have Touring Cars of various nationalities to achieve that aim, is incomprehensible. So, what about affordability? What will it cost to attend these football-club-car-race meetings? Is this simply not taking the idea of ripping off the punters one stage closer to rank exploitation? And, who will gain most from the venture? Wee Bernie Ecclestone? The Nazi-loving Max Mosley and ‘his’ FISA? The FA? Roll on The Olympics…another white elephant, with politics at its core and a small band of uber-protective directors filling their pockets to expand their personal wealth to new pinnacles. I fear that both motor sport and football will lose out, as both specialities are already stretched in many areas and, with a world depression imminent, it is doubtful for how long a successful ‘formula’ might last in any case.

  155. It’s a great idea. The Motorsport needs something fresh, like A1 GP and my opion is that the Superleague Formula will be a new “fresh wind” for Motorsport.
As TV broadcaster i wish a very good luck to this new project and as Olympiacos fan, i wish to my Greek team a very very good luck to this challenge…

  156. Com certeza vai ser mais vitorias para meu amado Corinthians.

  157. The best idea in years!!!
I am a huge motorsports fan, in America attended Indy racing, and now is a delight to see it in Europe!!
The combination is great, as my husband is a Rangers Fan, so we can share this races!!!
Cant wait for it to start, i wish you the best of lucks so we can see it growing in the future with more circuits.

  158. Thanks for this new concept…
I hope Indonesia could take part with this series.
Becoz, Indonesia had very-very many fans of both motorsport and especially the football club fans. Remember with the race of A1GP in Indonesia???
With 200milion of population, Indoensia had many good potensial.
With the big power car (WOW V12, i Can’t imagine how’s it sound voice???)
I hope the winner of Indonesian League, Sriwijaya FC could take part, and the Best driver of Indonesia could take part too ^^
Good LUCK Sriwijaya FC!!! and Ananda MIkola!!!

  159. we are the best TEAM of the world. we are the CHAMPIONs. we are GALATASARY.

  160. Bravo.. Yet another useless race series to add to the calendar. Lets see how long it lasts before it ends up like “Champ Car”

Very poor idea in my opinon, but at least the cars are using Hewland gearboxes… they ROCK!!

  161. I LOVE GALATASARAY

  162. Im very disapointed. I always enter in sl blog and I have already seen posts about Basel title, Galatasaray title and PSV title. But, sadly, we can see that, although Flamengo has the largest crowd in the world, and its fans are responsable for a lot of entrances in the blog, it didnt noticied the Flamengo´s Carioca title that happened sunday may 4, against its big rival botafogo. Its the first title Flamengo won in 2008 year, and its very disapointing to see that super league formula already started with a parcial vision between clubs.
I hope this unfair mistake be corrected by the blog.

  163. absolutely awful idea – in fact so bad it is laughable.

no one in their right mind would pay to see this! it has no impact on football, as results count for nothing other than bragging rights… AC milan you have disappointed me by endorsing this rubbish!

as for the racing… whos driving? a load of recreational drivers looking for the path to f1? i’ll stick to watching f3, gp2 and pro karting where there is at least a spectacle.

thanks for burning more fuel for absolutely no reason… you have made the world proud.

  164. Well whatever you guys think:
The cars look really good. If Doornbos is gonna race for AC Milan: would be great.

The more race fun the better right so every initiative with Formula cars is perdefinition good. 🙂

  165. in my country a kazakstan…this idea which would certianly impress the mensa!

as the man above has says…. bravo! ……………………………………… NOT!!!

  166. FC Groningen and West Ham United would be great to have on there. My 2 favourite sports combined !

  167. Umarim GALATASARAY butun yarişlari kazanir. Çünkü kazanan iyi para alcakmiş GOOD LUCK GS…..

  168. it is good job , football funs support his racing team ,good idea
i think this organization add istanbul gp(kurtkoy) to race because
of getting more action and GALATASARAY funs .
    GO GALATASARAY GO!!!!

  172. A Super League Formula deveria ter pelo menos 1 GP no Brasil ,afinal o Flamengo e o Corintians dois dos times de maior torcida no Brasil e no mundo deveriam ser prestigiados pelas suas torcidas.

  173. When are the testdays planned in Zolder ?

  174. brilliant, fast open wheel racing back at donington park!!
    can’t wait!
how much are tickets going to be?
can man u be banned from entering? (joke, red team fans!!)

  175. The idea looks great, but I believe more in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, the concept is globally much interesting because you have a whole nation cheering the national team not only a football fan formula. (where are ManU, Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Bayern …)
    Good luck anyway !!!!

  176. And besides that … Who’s paying all this big “party”????

  177. Will motor racing fans, go to Football match’s ?

Good luck,Budgets will dictate this series.

  178. Who dreamed up the most stupid combination of the worst sport[soccer] there is with the noble sport of racing cars, this
can only end in A nightmare.
