Huge congratulations from everyone at SF to PSV Eindhoven who won their fourth consecutive Dutch Championship title (and their seventh in the last nine years), beating Vitesse 1-0 at the Gelredome in Arnhem yesterday afternoon.

Following on from Porto’s title triumphs a fortnight ago, PSV went into the game knowing that just one point would be enough to secure the Eredivisie league title and take part in ‘the beautiful race’ this August as Dutch champions.

Serbian (and former Vitesse) striker, Danko Lazovic (above) came off the bench to score the decisive goal two minutes after the break to secure victory over his old club and, having maintained a three-point win over closest challengers Ajax, PSV’s title win seals automatic qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Huge celebrations continued well into the night in Eindhoven, including the traditional parade through the centre of the town and a big party at the City Hall where the players were honoured.

  1. I was scanning something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your perspective on it is diametrically opposed to what I read to begin with. I am still contemplating over the opposite points of view, but I’m leaning heavily toward yours. And regardless, that’s what is so great about modern democracy and the marketplace of ideas on-line.
